B'z Celebrate 25th Anniversary with Unreleased Live DVD and Blu-ray
B'z, one of the most successful rock bands in Japan, have kicked off their 25th anniversary year with a special treat for their fans: a DVD and Blu-ray release of their previously unreleased live tour from 2008. The tour, titled B'z LIVE-GYM 2008 -ACTION-, supported their sixteenth studio album ACTION and featured some of their classic hits as well as new songs.
The DVD and Blu-ray, which came out on January 30, 2013, captured the band's performances at Nippon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya on July 5-6, 2008. The stage design for the tour included a "magic carpet" LED screen that moved up and down and created stunning visual effects. The setlist included 23 songs, such as Junjou ACTION, Eien no Tsubasa, Samayoeru Aoi Dangan, SUPER LOVE SONG, and BURN -Fumetsu no Face-.
B'z LIVE-GYM 2008 -ACTION- is the first of three consecutive monthly releases of previously unreleased live tours by B'z. The second one, B'z LIVE-GYM 2005 -CIRCLE OF ROCK-, will be released on February 27, 2013, followed by B'z LIVE-GYM 2001 -ELEVEN- on March 27, 2013. These releases are part of the band's celebration of their 25th anniversary since their debut in 1988.
B'z fans can look forward to more surprises from the band throughout the year, as they have announced that they will release new music and hold a special live event in September. B'z are also planning to tour overseas in North America and Europe later this year.
B'z are known for their catchy rock tunes and powerful live performances. They have sold over 80 million records in Japan and have won numerous awards and accolades. They are also the only Asian artists to have their handprints and signatures at the Hollywood RockWalk.
One of the highlights of B'z 25th anniversary year was their all singles best album, which was released on June 12, 2013. The album, titled B'z The Best XXV, was divided into two volumes: one covering their singles from 1988 to 1998, and the other covering their singles from 1999 to 2012. The album included 52 songs and four new tracks, such as Q&A, Uchouten, and Exit To The Sun. The album also came with a bonus DVD or Blu-ray that contained all the music videos of the singles in chronological order.
B'z also held a special live event on September 21, 2013 at Nissan Stadium in Yokohama, which was the largest venue they had ever performed at. The event, titled B'z LIVE-GYM Pleasure 2013 -ENDLESS SUMMER-, was a celebration of their 25 years of music and featured a setlist of 35 songs that spanned their entire career. The event attracted over 70,000 fans and was broadcast live on WOWOW. The event also marked the first time that B'z performed their debut single Dakara Sono Te wo Hanashite live since 1989.
B'z also expanded their international presence in their 25th anniversary year by touring in North America and Europe in July and September. The tour, titled B'z LIVE-GYM 2013 -Endless Summer-, visited seven cities in the US and Canada, such as Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Toronto. The tour also visited four cities in Europe, such as London, Berlin, Paris, and Barcelona. The tour showcased B'z's rock sound and energy to their overseas fans and received positive reviews from the media and the audience.
